As the photos show, this is an extremely variable species. Common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. The colour variation can range both within local populations and geographically.
On the wing June to early August.

Food plant - A variety of herbaceous plants including primrose, violets, bramble, heathers, sallows, hawthorns, blackthorn and hazel.
