2221 Mullein - Shargacucullia verbasci.

Trapped - Newall, Derbyshire - May 2004.
This species has a similar status to Camomile Shark, being widely distributed in Derbyshire but generally uncommon. Again, it is only recorded in small numbers each season, however the larvae can sometimes be found in large numbers feeding on plants such as Mullein; Water Figwort and in gardens on Buddleia .This specimen is probably a female due to the wider appearance of the brown stripes on the forewing. On the wing from April - May.

Food plant - Wild & cultivated Mullein, Water Figwort and Buddleia.
