A widely distributed and locally common species in Derbyshire. Can be fairly common in well wooded locations throughout the county. A melanic form, capucina, is usually found on the coal measures. These well marked individuals are of the paler form.
On the wing from September - November.

Food plant - Hawthorns, Blackthorn, Dog Rose, Cotoneaster, Rowan, Plum and Crab Apple.
