2247 Merveille du Jour - Dichonia aprilina.
Trapped - Kings Newton, Derbyshire -2nd October 2003. Another uncommon and locally distributed species in Derbyshire. This attractive moth is generally uncommon although does turn up in small numbers, usually ones and twos during the autumn. It is usually associated with old oak woodland. Found more predominantly in the south and east of the county. Aptly named - Merveille = Wonder, du Jour = of the day. Merveille du Jour = Wonder of the day! A stunning moth and one that I am sure is on every “ Mothing” want list! On the wing from September - October.
Food plant - Pendunculate Oak, probably Sessile Oak and Turkey Oak.
