This species is widely distributed and fairly common locally in Derbyshire. The Satellite hibernates. The species has a patchy distribution in the county and is primarily found in old woodland in the southern Trent Valley Area. Other localities are the Derwent Valley and the Cordwell Valley. Also note the difference in colour of the “Satellite” dots on the forewing. On the wing from March-mid April & again in September - October.
Food plant - The leaves of a variety of broadleaved trees. Later, as the larva become larger, the larvae of other moth species.
