2273 Pink -barred Sallow - Xanthia togata.

Trapped - Dimminsdale, Derbyshire - September 2003.
A widely distributed species in Derbyshire, being fairly common locally. Most numerous in the southern Trent Valley area. Note the distinctive deep red head and shoulders which help to identify this moth from other species of Sallow. Note the subtle differences between Pink-barred and The Sallow. At a glance, they are easily overlooked and can be mistaken for The Sallow.
On the wing from September - October.

Food plant - The catkins of sallows & poplars, later a range of herbaceous plants.
