2301 Bird’s Wing - Dypterygia scabriuscula.

Trapped - Foremark Reservoir, Derbyshire - June 2004.
This species is very rare in Derbyshire. It was described in 1986 as a rare vagrant with only 4 specimens being recorded - 1977,1978,1980 &1981. Then further records in 1986 & 5 in 1987. To date the species seems to be recorded in very small numbers, most often at locations in South Derbyshire and not in every year. It is a very distinctive moth and fairly straight forward to identify.
On the wing from late May - July.

Food plant - Docks, sorrels and Knotgrass..
