ABOUT

1978 Pine Hawkmoth - Hyloicus pinastri.

Trapped - Kings Newton, Derbyshire. July 2005

This species did not feature in the Moths of Derbyshire publication by Harrison & Sterling 1986.
There have been a number of records from Nottinghamshire but appear to be very few records from Derbyshire. I believe this moth has now established itself in the county but is very local. At least 6 individuals have been trapped July 2005 at Whitwell Woods in the NE of the county.

This specimen trapped at MVL on the evening of 29th July 2005 may well be the first modern day South Derbyshire record. With the spread of large conifer plantations, this has enabled the species to slowly spread northwards.
One the wing from May to early August.
