ABOUT

2170 Varied Coronet - Hadena compta.

Trapped - Melbourne, Derbyshire June 2005
.

I would suggest that this species is still quite rare and local in Derbyshire. The first breeding was only confirmed in June 2000 and the first record for Derbyshire was July 1985. To date there appears to be only a hand full of records each year with very few from the Trent Valley area. The species is only a recent colonist to the British Isles with the first breeding record from Dover in 1948. It has since spread rapidly across the country. On the wing from June - July.

Food plant - Sweet William and Bladder Campion.
