2293 Marbled Beauty - Cryphia domestica.
Trapped - Melbourne, Derbyshire July 2003. A resident, common and widely distributed species in Derbyshire. One of a few species of moth whose larvae feed on lichens. It is possible that due to cleaner air, this species has successfully maintained high population levels. It is also worth considering that due to modern central heating and a lack of coal fires, modern day house roofs seem to be well covered in Lichens !! It is found in all areas of the county but is seen in greatest numbers in the lowland areas. On the wing from July to August.
Food plant - Lichens growing on rocks, walls, roofs and trees.
