ABOUT

1962 Barred Red - Hylaea fasciaria.

Trapped - Robin Wood, South Derbyshire - 23rd June 2006.

A common but generally localised species in Derbyshire. Probably introduced into the county during the establishment of large areas of coniferous plantation. There were no records in Derbyshire before the latter part of the 19th century. It seems to have increased in numbers since then. It is generally not regarded as a common insect but seems to be well established at the large Pine Plantations located in the Trent Valley and Matlock Forest areas. On the wing from late June - early September.

Food plant - Mainly Scots Pine and Norway Spruce.
