1796 Pale November Moth - Epirrita christyi.

Trapped - Millers Dale, Derbyshire - September 23rd 2006

Simon Roddis trapped 4 specimens of this species on 23rd September 2006, in Millers Dale, Derbyshire. Identification was confirmed by genitalia examination as 2 males & 2 females.

These specimens constitute the first record of this species for Derbyshire. Simon reports that otherwise the night was a little disappointing, especially as a friend near Sheffield was inundated with
migrants on what he reckoned was his best night of the year!

I suspect that this species is totally overlooked and probably exists in most mixed woodland in Derbyshire, especially those in the south of the county.
On the wing from late September to November.

Food plant - Beech, elms, birches, Alder, hawthorns, sallows and Hazel.
