1923 Feathered Thorn - Colotois pennaria.

Trapped - Foremark Reservoir, Derbyshire - 18th November 2003.

A fairly common and widely distributed species in Derbyshire. Its numbers seem to be relatively evenly spread north to south but it seems to be most common in woodlands, parks and large gardens. Note the contrasts between these two specimens. The tiny white dots near the tip of the forewing on the right hand individual are unique and diagnostic to this species of thorn.
On the wing from mid September - early December.

Food plant - A wide range of broadleaved trees
