ABOUT

1930 Oak Beauty - Biston strataria.

Generally uncommon and locally distributed in Derbyshire. As this species is associated predominantly with old woodlands in the south, trapping odd individuals in Melbourne, well away from any old woodland, is unusual. This male clearly shows the distinctive feathery antennae which helps to sex the species. On the wing from late February - April.

Food plant - A wide range of broadleaved trees and shrubs including Oaks, Hazel, Aspen.
