A stunning first summer female RED-FOOTED FALCON had been hiding itself away from local birders since Friday 17th June.

It had been favouring horse paddocks at Breaston right on the Derbys/Notts border. News came out onto the pager systems to-day about the bird, which I believe had been discovered by “Non-Birders” not specifically knowing what it was. The Red-foot could easily be viewed from a Public Footpath running close to the edge of the Horse Paddocks. It was showing well late afternoon when I was able to get away from work a little early to see this lovely bird from eastern europe. There have been a number of Red-footed Falcons in the country in recent weeks and they always seem to be very obliging birds.

One of my favourite falcons – puts my year list onto 222.
