Following hot on the heels of the first inland record of Pacific Golden Plover at Rutland Water on 15th July 2013, another stunning adult was discovered at the RSPB reserve of Middleton Lakes in Staffordshire on 26th July 2014. Not far from home, I visited the reserve early morning on Sunday 27th July and had good scope views of the bird but too far for me to photograph. These days I don’t do any digiscoping. Extremely disappointing not to get any shots.
The bird was faithful to the reserve for nearly a week but disappeared sometime on Saturday 2nd August 2014. Dave Hutton managed to get some superb shots of this bird and obviously his perseverance paid off. He has very kindly let me have two of his shots to post to this BLOG for which I’m very grateful. In his pursuit to photograph this bird, he got soaking wet in a downpour on 2nd August, but all I can say is, it was well worth it!! I hope his camera gear remained dry?. Well done Dave for getting the images of this very attractive wader.
