STATUS – A resident species, that is widely distributed, sometimes locally abundant and generally common in Derbyshire. It has been recorded in all areas of the county and is fairly common in the Trent valley. Largest numbers are recorded from the Peak District, being one of the most abundant species on the upland moors. Very scarce in the North East and the coal measure areas.

ID POINTERS – Forewing can vary in ground colour from a straw yellow to orange-brown or even dark brown. A triangular wedge of yellow or brown in each corner of the wing tip, with a short dark diagonal line. There is a “W” shaped projection on the cross band which is obvious.
 
FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing between  June – September
