STATUS – A resident that is locally distributed and uncommon in Derbyshire. Most colonies have disappeared due to changes in agricultural methods and loss of flower meadows. Only isolated colonies now exists, mainly in the uplands of the county where traditional meadows and pastures still exist. This specimen trapped in South Derbyshire is therefore a rare occurrence and maybe small populations are making a come back. Jim Mart NR, near Clay Cross – 16 records between 2013 – 2020. One trapped at Middleton-by-Youlgrave on 9th September 2023 is a remarkably late record.
ID POINTERS – A fairly easy moth to recognise with numerous soft pastel grey-brown cross-bands over a pale chalky white forewing. As with many moths, these characteristics can be variable in colour and intensity.
FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing May – July.
