70.190 BF1837 – Grey Pug – Geometridae – Eupithecia subfuscata
Grey Pug – Geometridae – Larentiinae – Eupithecia subfuscata – colour code •
STATUS – A resident and widely distributed species that is not uncommon across Derbyshire. Probably under recorded as it is not an easy Pug species to identify. Although now there is a wide variety of good field guides, it has made the process of identification somewhat easier.
ID POINTERS -A brownish-grey pug which has a conspicuous black central spot on the forewing. Ground colour is darkest at the wing base, leading edge and outer border. Various wavy cross-lines. As with a number of Pug species, melanic forms occur, which require close inspection in order to determine the ID.
FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing May – August.
