70.198 BF1879 – The Seraphim – Geometridae – Lobophora halterata

The SeraphimGeometridae – Larentiinae – Lobophora halterata – colour code

STATUS – A very localised species that is thinly distributed in Derbyshire. Favours ancient woodland sites where Aspen grows. There seems to be very few Derbyshire records, most of which originate from the Trent Valley.

ID POINTERS – The most distinctive feature is a dark grey cross-band near the base of a broad rounded wing. This feature is present even on the most poorly marked examples. There is considerable variation in colour and patterning. There is also a small extra wing flap  by the basal part of the hind wing. This gives a false appearance of an additional hind wing.

FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing – May – June
