 STATUS – Resident, generally locally common and widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. Favours old woodland and areas where there are good hedgerows. A melanic form does occur.
 
 ID POINTERS – The moth gets its name from a conspicuous row of black dots that fringe the trailing edge of the coffee brown coloured forewing and the off white hindwing. Dark cross lines run through both upper wings. Females are flightless. A distinctive angular “Kink” in the outer cross-line is characteristic.
 
 FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing January – April
