STATUSA resident species that is widely distributed throughout Derbyshire but is generally not common. Usually only recorded in small numbers. 

ID POINTERS – A large thick-set species that is very attractively marked and stunning when it shows off the hind wings. The forewings are coloured in combinations of reddish brown to olive green with a prominent wavy white cross-line. The wings are crossed over at rest which is a characteristic feature of the species. The hind wing is unmarked with a bright golden orange-yellow and a very thick black band which is where the moth gets its name.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing July – September.
