The Shears Noctuidae – Hadeninae – Hada plebeja – colour code

STATUS – A resident that is locally common and confined to the upland areas of Derbyshire. It is fairly common and widely distributed on the uplands in the north of the county. Seems to be absent from the south.

ID POINTERS – Gets its name from the whitish mark that protrudes outwards towards the trailing forewing edge, looking like a pair of shears. Contrasts with the blackish mark that is usually either next to or surrounding this feature. The ground colour of the wing varies from greyish brown to pale brown to dark brownish grey.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing May – July
