73.280 BF2165 – Small Ranunculus – Noctuidae – Hecatera dysodea

Small Ranunculus Noctuidae – Hadeninae – Hecatera dysodea – colour code

STATUS – A nationally scarce species and suspected immigrant. First recorded in the county in 2010, with a further specimen trapped by Brian & Jean Hallam in 2011, and the one trapped by Tony Davison on 18th September 2014 is probably the 6th county record. Species looks as though it now has a foot-hold in South Derbyshire, as records are now becoming more widespread. Rapidly expanding its range north and westwards. Small numbers now being recorded annually, as this species seems to have a foothold in the county.

ID POINTERS – The moth has a fine covering of black & orange-gold scaling that is quite distinctive. There is a central cross band that is dark greyish and contrasting.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing June – October
