STATUS A resident that is fairly common in suitable habitats, where the principle food plant Hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium) flourishes but it is locally distributed in Derbyshire. The main population is found in the Carboniferous Limestone areas of central west Derbyshire, extending into the central grit and extremities of the coal measure areas in the east. Seems to be absent from the south of the county.

ID POINTERS – A rather stout and furry moth with forewing being greenish brown dusted and marked with dull yellow and grey. Can be variable in size and forewing tone.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing March – April and September – November.
