STATUS A resident that is common and widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. One of the most abundant autumn species especially in the southern and eastern lowlands. Fewer numbers in the northern areas of the county.

ID POINTERS – A partial black cross-line, small black marks along leading edge of wing and a prominent black triangular shaped dash near wing tip are all diagnostic features. The ground colour is a reddish-brown, sometimes purplish brown.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing August – October.
