STATUS A resident that is common and widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. Another very abundant autumn species, especially in the southern and eastern lowlands. Fewer numbers in the northern areas of the county.

ID POINTERS – Very variable in ground colour from a warm chestnut-brown through dark brown, pale greyish-straw and orange greyish-yellow. There is nearly always a small dark dash towards the wing tip and several dark marks along the forewing leading edge, forming a string of beads effect (Hence name). The Oval and kidney marks are usually dark centred and narrow in appearance.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing September – November.
