Poplar Grey  NoctuidaeAcronictinae – Subacronicta megacephala – colour code

STATUS A resident that is only locally distributed and not common in Derbyshire. It is locally found over much of southern and eastern areas and seems to have benefited from the introduction of Poplar trees into town and urban landscapes. Not found in the high peak and the northern areas of the county.

ID POINTERS – A large grey moth with rather broad and rounded wings. Ground colour an attractive pale grey dusted and marbled with black or blackish grey. The pale oval, with dark centre, is often outlined and the kidney mark has a pale area beyond it towards outer edge which is quiet obvious and helps to eliminate the Sycamore

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing June – August.
