STATUS A resident that is common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. It is present in all areas of the county where it is not uncommon. Main populations are from the Lowlands and the Coal Measures.

ID POINTERS – A very variable species. Forewing quiet broad and patterned with varieties of pale straw-brown, pale straw-grey, brownish-grey,  and charcoal-grey marbling and with darker inconspicuous or stronger markings of darker brown or black combinations. These marks form an indistinct central cross-band and there are two blackish basal streaks. Oval and kidney marks are pale outlined.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing June – August.
