Waved Black Erebidae – Boletobiinae – Parascotia fuliginaria – colour code

STATUS The status of this moth in Derbyshire is uncertain and possibly accidentally introduced. The species has been recorded on several consecutive years from a site in Darley Dale, near Matlock, close to a timber yard. There seems to be no other records in recent times, apart from 1955 and 1959 both from Ramcroft Colliery, Heath. A record from Ripley on 12/8/2012 (near a timber yard) and one new record from Long Eaton 2/7/2018 (photographed on iRecord).

ID POINTERS – Looks like a geometrid species. A charcoal blackish-grey ground colour and creamy white spotting with weaker cross-lines are fairly diagnostic.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing June – July.
