STATUS – Widely distributed on the upland moors of Derbyshire, where it is locally fairly common.
 
ID POINTERS – Melanistic specimens form a large proportion of the local population. The size, flight season, habitat and its habit of resting on vertical rock surfaces by day all help to identify this upland species.
