70.164 BF1824 – Pauper (Fletcher’s) Pug – Geometridae – Eupithecia egenaria

Pauper (Fletcher’s) Pug Geometridae – Larentiinae – Eupithecia egenaria – colour code

STATUS –  First recorded in Derbyshire 27.5.2002 at Matlock, then several recorded from High Tor, Matlock in June 2004 and again in May 2011. One recorded from a garden in Darley Dale in 2012. One trapped at Cromford on 1st October 2023 by Clive Ashton, which was way out of  the known flight period? The larva feed on Lime, in particular Small-leaved Lime, which exists on the cliffs above Matlock Bath. So it is possible that small localised colonies exist in the Matlock, Darley Dale area, close by the food plant.

ID POINTERS –  A large usually pale grey pug, with faint tram-lines/cross-lines and a small, elongated black central spot running indirectly towards the leading wing edge.

FLIGHT PERIOD – May – June
