70.177 BF1828 – Satyr Pug – Geometridae – Eupithecia satyrata

 

Satyr Pug Geometridae – Larentiinae – Eupithecia satyrata – colour code

STATUS –  Uncertain and probably a very rare species in the county. One trapped overnight in a garden moth trap at Cromford on 23rd/24th June 2023. Seems to be the first confirmed record since 1981.
 
ID POINTERS –  A weakly marked, rather non-descript pug, with overall grey-brown colouration. Shows chequered black and white veins, but can be difficult to see in worn specimens. Whitish dots near outer edge of forewing, with largest in trailing corner.
 
FLIGHT PERIOD – May – June
