70.208 BF1888 – Scorched Carpet – Geometridae – Ligdia adustata

 

Scorched Carpet Geometridae – Ennominae – Ligdia adustata – colour code

STATUS –  Latest record August 2024. A resident that is scarce and locally distributed in Derbyshire. 
 
ID POINTERS –  Fairly distinctive “Carpet” moth, no similar species – The ground colour is a creamy white with dark shoulder patches at base of forewing. A further dark brownish/grey patch about two thirds along forewing edge and another in the central area of the upper forewing. These blotches refer to the “scorched” appearance but this is more obvious on the underside, which is suffused with reddish-brown. 
 
FLIGHT PERIOD – May- June and August
