72.076 BF2451 – Clifden Nonpareil – Erebidae – Catocala fraxini

Clifden Nonpareil  Erebidae – Erebinae – Catocala fraxini – colour code

STATUS A very rare migrant, or range expansion from the south, as is current chain of thought – An unprecedented six individuals were trapped during September 2023 and several more in October 2023, including my very first one in my garden trap on 10th October 2023. None were pristine individuals, indicating possible migration, or a long flight. Other modern day records include 2012 from Findern and one seen and photographed October 14th 2020 at Calke Park.

ID POINTERS – Unmistakable – the Blue Underwing

FLIGHT PERIOD – September is the favoured time to encounter this species
