Usually associated with old deciduous woodland   ID POINTERS – The male is usually much smaller than the female. Numbers recorded each year are low and in single figures. During 2019-2023 only three records.   ID POINTERS – The moth is easily identified as it is the only grey eggar in Britain. Fox Moth – Lasiocampidae – Lasiocampinae – Macrothylacia rubi – colour code •   STATUS – A resident, widely distributed & locally abundant on the moorlands of North Derbyshire.  The adult moths are rarely seen, males fly by day and sometimes come to light.   ID POINTERS – The male moth is richly coloured red-brown with diagnostic white parallel lines across  the forewing.
