On the Chase - 1st April 2012

We were certainly in no mood for “Fooling Around” this morning!!     Cannock Chase is only around 45 minutes drive from home and offers some good birds that are relatively on my doorstep. Providing, of course, you know where to go looking for them. It is a vast area and there are many access roads leading to all corners of this heathland habitat in the middle of Staffordshire. Final “Jewels” of the Butterfly Year - 14th August 2011

The traditional visit, to a superb Chalkland Hillside reserve, brings the butterfly year to a close. Aston Rowant is simply superb, despite the M40! We had good numbers of Silver-spotted Skipper, these little jewels were darting about everywhere even though the weather was not perfect. Also good numbers of Chalkhill Blue and surprise of the morning, a perfect male Adonis Blue. The first time I’ve seen one here. Still a few Small Skipper & Brown Argus on the wing.
