Plenty of common waders on offer at RSPB Titchwell, in Norfolk and RSPB Frampton Marsh in Lincs. A total of 22 species were seen to-day. Highlights being a 1stw Red-Necked Phalarope at Frampton; 22 Spotted Redshank at Titchwell; c300 Black-tailed Godwit at both sites; c200 Bar Tailed Godwit at Titchwell along with 16 Spoonbill, an impressive sight especially when they all took off for a fly round. A Selection of Spring Waders - 20th May 2012

Still the weather continues to be grey & cold for the middle of May, we have suffered for nearly three weeks now of miserable conditions. Not very conducive to photography. It was so cold today at Frampton Marsh, Lincs, the Swallows were settling on vegetation to pick at small insects and Swifts were so low they were skimming over our heads. There was little insect activity in the air. So it was I spent another day at one of my favourite sites. Early morning here and one has the place to oneself. We knew there were good birds about but […]

A Wintery April in Lincolnshire? - 29th April 2012

Spring seemed to have disappeared this morning as we arrived at the RSPB Reserve at Frampton Marsh near Boston, Lincolnshire.     Non-stop rain, a howling gale and freezing cold. Just the day for great photography – NOT. In heavy rain I managed just a few landscape shots of this great reserve but no bird photography to-day. We were the only two birders at the reserve, well it was only 8am on a Sunday morning and the weather was foul. We did managed to find the Black-winged Stilt, along with a few Whimbrel, a good selection of waders on […]

A Bumper Day of Waders - 8th May 2011

The RSPB Reserve at Frampton Marshes in Lincolnshire is a great place to observe migrating waders. To-day was not exception with 18 species being seen in just a few hours.  Not to mention the variety of other marshland birds with plenty of spring migrants on offer.   My favourite spring waders were at this reserve, Temminck’s Stint and Wood Sandpiper. Also a summer plumaged Curlew Sandpiper, Spotted Redshank and Little Stint. Many of the common waders were in good numbers with at least 200 Ringed Plover and a 100 Dunlin. Several Whimbrel and Grey Plover, with at least 10 summer […]
