Our annual birding trip to the Isles of Scilly commenced on the evening of the 19th October. An overnight drive down to St. Just to catch our Skybus flight to St.Mary;’s on Saturday 20th October. This was to be my 26th consecutive year and our hopes were high as the weather forecast was predicting easterly winds all week. Well, I got a real surprise yesterday, when the DNA results were announced on the “Flamborough ficedula Flycatcher” – see Probable Atlas Flycatcher – they pointed to nominate Pied Flycatcher!! What !!! I must confess I found it difficult to believe but who am I to argue against the Science. Nevertheless I am glad I went to observe this intriguing bird and all may not be over yet.
