My year list for 2011 was slightly better than last year, I managed to see 267 species in Britain and I had  4 lifers plus an armchair tick (Siberian Stonechat) so I’m creeping along ever closer to the big 500! My highlights of the year were trips to Speyside, Scotland in April; Shetland in September & Scilly in October; White-winged Scoter twitch to Aberdeen in June; the White-throated Robin at Hartlepool in June; Northern Water Thrush & Scarlet Tanager on Scilly in October and finding a Dusky Warbler on Scilly. A Mega in Cleveland - White-throated Robin - 7th June 2011

  On Monday 6th June 2011, a female White-throated Robin was trapped on Hartlepool Headland, Cleveland.   This was the third record for Britain and most modern day Birders & Twitchers albeit needed this bird. No way could I make it on the Monday, so keeping my fingers crossed that it would stay overnight, I planned to go straight from work the next day. Sure enough at 18:30hrs, Tuesday 8th June, myself and Barrie were watching the bird in the “Doctor’s Garden” on the headland. Chasing the Butcher - Cannock Chase - Sunday, 6 February 2011

The morning started at Willington Gravel Pits to catch-up on the Black-throated Diver that was discovered by RMRJ on 1st February. This was the first in the county since 2005. Little else here other than 3 Goldeneye, “Redhead” Goosander & a singing Willow Tit. We then decided to head-off for Cannock Chase and hopefully a Great Grey Shrike.
