Sometimes when its quiet on the national birding front, it can be difficult to know what to do<\/strong><\/span>, if in doubt, fall back on some local birding. Thats exactly what I did on Sunday 14th August, spending a few hours during the morning at the Derbyshire Wildlife Reserve at Willington Gravel Pits. It’s usually difficult for photography here, but the reserve can often produce a few good birds, especially during migration time. This morning was no exception, as there was an obvious passage of waders, with 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 4 Ruff, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Common Snipe all putting in either a fly through appearance, or something a little longer. Also 13 Goosander, (fly through), 1 Little Egret, a Hobby, around 8 Common Tern, 7 species of warbler, single Sand Martin and the usual common stuff. Not a bad few hours had by all.<\/p>\n
