So a new Birding Year begins and I’m already wondering what may turn-up during the next 12 months<\/strong><\/span>. I can’t imagine that it will be as good as 2016, but we can live in hope. I part chopped a couple of camera bodies that I wasn’t using any more and decide to treat myself to the new Canon 7DMKII. A light weight little camera that appears to be pretty good and will no doubt have it’s uses, especially when travelling abroad. Thanks to Glyn and Richard for the recommendation. A trip to Wales and the Wirral on Sunday 1st January, kick started my new years birding. During the day the highlights were Chough, Black Guillemot<\/span>, Great Northern Diver and Peregrine on Anglesey. Hen Harrier, Merlin, Great White Egret<\/span>, Whooper & Bewick Swan<\/span>, Green Sandpiper and Stonechat on the Wirral Marshes. I ended up with around 54 species during the day.<\/p>\n

Today, the 2nd January, I spent a few hours at my local patch, Staunton Harold Reservoir, in South Derbyshire. A reasonable total of 52 species included the 2 juvenile Velvet Scoter<\/span>, 2 Raven, Kingfisher, Bullfinch, Siskin, Sparrowhawk, Fieldfare, Redwing and Yellowhammer.<\/p>\n

I also fired off a few shots to try out the new camera. The Year List is currently at 79.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
