Saturday 23rd August 2014 and we visited one of my favourite parts of Yorkshire, Flamborough Head<\/strong><\/span>. Along with Glyn & RichardP, we sat at the Sea Watching site on the headland for a couple of hours in the hope of a few good seabirds. It was very quiet with only a few Manx Shearwaters<\/span> and Arctic Skuas<\/span> passing by amongst the large numbers of Gannets, Fulmars and Kittiwakes, nevertheless it was good to see a few Manx Shearwaters. Also past a single Red-throated Diver and a few small parties of Common Scoter.<\/p>\n

After a very fine plate of Steak Pie, Peas and Chips at the Flamborough Cafe, we decided to head off towards Hornsea Mere via Barmston. Some fantastic storm clouds greeted us, otherwise nothing else here. Arriving at Hornsea Mere, we found a Mediterranean Gull,, a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Juvenile moulting into 1st winter plumage, also\u00a0an adult winter Little Gull<\/span>.<\/p>\n

On route back south we called in at Blacktoft Sands in the hope of a few waders. Absolutely torrential rain caused some havoc amongst the birds with a few Redshank, Ruff and Black-tailed Godwits braving it out. Once the rain passed through we had a male Marsh Harrier, a Sparrowhawk, \u00a0a Hobby and a superb Merlin<\/span> hunting over\u00a0the reed beds.<\/p>\n

Not a bad day and my year list moves slowly on to 192.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 To follow a few photos from today<\/p>\n
