STATUSA resident species that is very common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Population levels are higher in the lowland areas of the county.

ID POINTERS – Variable in both size and ground colour but one feature that remains constant is the dark black-brown collar that can be seen even on the darkest individuals. A prominent black dart on the basal area and a pale kidney mark in the central area of the forewing are diagnostic.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing May – September.
