A Day with Gants and Tarrocks

Sunday 24th July and I spent the day with my wife Helen, at the RSPB reserve of Bempton Cliffs, on the Yorkshire Coast near Bridlington. A great place for sea bird photography as the cliff faces are covered in Kittiwakes, Gannets and Auks during the breeding season. At this time of the year though, many of the Razorbills, Puffins and Guillemots have left their breeding ledges, but there were still small numbers around. Pelagic Gull Provides County Tick

A Sabine’s Gull was discovered at Carr Vale in Derbyshire early morning of the 13th July. It soon flew off with the local Black-headed Gulls and disappointingly, I assumed that was the end of that. A Visitor from Siberia

Having missed a couple of Great Knot in Alaska by a few days, it was a little disconcerting when I heard of one turning up at Titchwell in North Norfolk. Little did I know at the time that it would stick around, giving me a chance of seeing it on my arrival back in UK. So Sunday 2nd July 2016, gave me the chance to see another Great Knot in Britain. This time much better views than the one I had in the North East many years ago. The bird was in with an estimated 3,000 Red Knot making for […]
