Gracillariidae – Glacillariinae – Caloptilia populetorum – Clouded Slender

STATUS Not listed in Harrison & Sterling (1988) – Current status unknown. A species that seems to be expanding its range. First documented record 8th August 2020 – Melbourne.

ID POINTERS – A characteristic resting pose, with the body raised on the front legs. The forewing can be pale yellowish brown through to darkish brown. The paler specimens (like this one) have a distinctive blackish spot along the costa about half way and two more at the wing tip with dark cilia.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing from August onwards. They overwinter, so can then be seen in April – May
