Tortricidae – Tortricinae – Cochylis atricapitana – Black-headed Conch

STATUS Unsure but likely to be common where there is Ragwort in waste places and in the dales

ID POINTERS – As the name suggest, a black head and thorax. A rather broad forewing, whitish in the male and whitish with a pinkish hue in the female, with brownish or greyish suffusion. Greyish or black at the base and a brown and blackish irregular cross-band at about a half, being narrowly interrupted near the costa. A mix of blackish, purple/blue and brown markings at the termen and apex.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing during April – early October in two overlapping generations.
