Pyralidae – Phycitinae – Rhodophaea formosa – Beautiful Knot-horn

STATUS Uncertain – There are few records of this very secretive species that is expanding northwards. Four records all from one site in Kings Newton between 2005 and 2019.

ID POINTERS – Forewing is an attractive banding of pinkish-red, grey & black, with a broken cross-line at about a half, that is obscured by a large central blackish cross-band. Another whitish cross-line at about three-quarters, that is edged blackish and reddish.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing during May – September
