70.036 BF1680 – Maiden’s Blush – Geometridae – Cyclophora punctaria
Maiden’s Blush – Geometridae – Sterrhinae – Cyclophora punctaria – colour code •
STATUS – Last recorded May 2023 – A resident, but one that is now very rare and localised in Derbyshire. Appears to be declining and there are now only isolated populations in the county.
ID POINTERS – The moth gets its name form the reddish blush that is sometimes present in the central area of the forewing. The forewing is covered in small spot like freckles and lacks any circular spots in the centre of the fore and hind wings. The combination of these two features help to eliminate other mochas. The red cross line is obvious and runs through both fore and hind wings.
FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing – mid-May to late September. Images by Tony Davison©
