STATUS – A resident species that is locally common and widely distributed in the county. Highest numbers seem to be located on the gritstone moors. The attractively patterned green and black specimens tend to be found amongst sallow carr in the lowland areas of the county.
 
ID POINTERS – Very variable both in colour and size. The “Highfliers” have a distinctive “shoulder”appearance to the wings at rest. There is a small diagonal streak at wing tip. `the forewing is intricately patterned in variable colours, usually a combination of green and black; yellow and brown; orange and brown.
 
FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing between July – September.
